v0.5.beta4 info (the AJAX and others)

I didn’t like using meta-refresh for updating the stats. It was putting a lot of stress to the server, and it can easily make your host tell you “Hey, We don’t take kindly to server-stressers like you ’round here!”.
So v0.5 beta4 has another major upgrade. Ajax reload! You can safely set it to lower than 60 seconds (which was the recommended lower limit).
There is still an obstacle however… When the user changes language it still reloads the page, but it’s a beginning. It’s the first time I use Javascript/AJAX. The code was found on Mark Voss’s blog, and after a couple modifications it’s ready. (I still need to figure out how to change language on-the-fly without reloading the page).
Still need to fix some minor errors on the admin area, one of them being that the “Config file editor” is not loading correctly all the details from the config file.
Below you can see the changelog for beta4 (it’s not final)
v0.5.beta4:
[+] Templates using CSS styling.
[$] Looking for templates in /templates/ folders.
[*] There was no message displaying on login attempts with wrong details.
[/] No meta-tags resulted to all non-English characters appear strange. All meta tags have been added.
[-] Old styling system.
[/] Added “Regenerate Playlists” on the “Site Config” editor. If the server was changed and you were using local links the user would get the files with the old server.
[+] uop() function now uses a customised user agent.
[/] Fixed some code which invalidated the HTML.
[+] Using AJAX to (re)load the stats. No page reload (less stress for the server).
[/] Updated the installer to reflect the changes for the templating system, the new AJAX interface on homepage and removing the couple-extra files of the install folder.[+]: Additions [-]:Removals [*]: Bugfixes [/]: OtherFixes&Updates [$]: ExperimentalSupport [^]: UpdatedToStable

April 3rd, 2010 at 07:40Great post, I would recommend that you make it a bit more convenient to share this to some social media sites, throw up a big add to facebook button or something in a few places that are obvious. No sense in making it too much work to add your stuff. Also, I really like your comment layout here, is it the default setup for your theme or did you customize it?
